Founded in 2023, LATENTE is a piano and percussion ensemble comprising Joaquín García, Víctor Ojeda, Víctor Medina, Mario Sarmiento, and Daniel Troncoso. Through performance, composition, and research, the ensemble explores new perspectives on Latin American music, bringing its diverse musical heritage into dialogue with contemporary practices and international influences.
In this sense, LATENTE occupies the threshold where the ear transforms tempo into frequency and gesture into sonic matter. Just as an accelerating pulse can become a tone, the ensemble proposes an experience in which rhythm and harmony are manifestations of the same acoustic and perceptual phenomenon.
Its repertoire spans Latin American works, original compositions, innovative arrangements, and adaptations of symphonic and orchestral pieces. Through its interplay, LATENTE reimagines familiar musical languages, moving between folk and concert traditions, academic and popular expressions, and inherited forms and new artistic possibilities. Rather than treating tradition as a static inheritance, the ensemble approaches it as a dynamic source of inspiration, shaped by cultural memory and continually renewed through creative exploration. This perspective informs both its performances and its research, fostering connections between music, identity, and the ways cultural knowledge is transmitted and transformed.
They have appeared at the Sala Ernesto Castilla of the Conservatorio del Tolima and the Jornada de Investigación y Creación Musical of the Universidad de Cundinamarca, among other artistic and academic venues. The ensemble is currently preparing its debut album alongside a forthcoming publication documenting its research and creative processes.
LATENTE creates a space of revelation—a place where Latin American music expands, is reshaped, and ventures into new ways of listening, keeping its essential energy alive even when it has yet to be fully perceived.
