Pianist, composer, improviser; Mauricio Arias-Esguerra is the composer of Rapsodia Camaleónica for trumpet, piano and orchestra. He is a prolific musician and has performed in various continents and important venues, including Carnegie Hall in New York and Festival di Spoleto (Italy), representing Colombia, along with the Medellín Philharmonic Orchestra.
As a pianist, one of his projects is the promotion of pieces by contemporary Colombian composers. He has presented several versions of the recital ¡Colombia Viva! in different cities in Colombia and around the world. Award-winning pianist at Kingsville, Schmidbauer, Peabody Mason, USasu Bösendorfer, Panama City piano competitions. In Colombia, he was the winner of the 1st Fryderyk Chopin National Piano Competition and the UIS National Piano Competition.
He studied piano with Ludmila Weber (Corpas University, BM), Baruch Meir and Robert Hamilton (Arizona State University, DMA); and composition with Rodney Rogers and Jorge Pinzón, in addition to participating in various courses with composers such as Zygmunt Krauze, Philippe Manoury, Alessandro Solbiati. He has been commissioned by the National Symphony Orchestra of Colombia, the Symphonic Band of the University of Florida, the Bogotá Secretary of Education, the Piano Teachers Congress of New York and the Blanca Uribe International Piano Competition. He has collaborated with, trumpeter Pacho Flores, violist Marc Sabbah, among others.
He is currently a Yamaha Artist, as well as an assistant professor at the Universidad de los Andes in Colombia, a founding member of the Bogotá Piano Trio and pianist/arranger of the Bogotá Piano Trio. His works recordings “La trompeta camaleónica” (in collaboration with trumpeter Randy Lee) and ¡Colombia Viva! Vol. 1, ¡Colombia Viva! Vol. 2 for piano solo.
