Born in the historic city of Kamakura, Japan, and based in Paris since 2008, Ryutaro Suzuki is widely regarded as one of the most exciting pianists of his generation. His refined artistry and international presence have earned him recognition across the classical music world.
He honed his craft at the prestigious Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris, studying under legendary teachers such as Bruno Rigutto, Hortense Cartier-Bresson, Michel Béroff, and Michel Dalberto. He later deepened his musical insight with the celebrated Georgian pianist Eliso Virsaladze at the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole. Over the years, he’s also received guidance from world-renowned artists including Sergio Perticaroli, Gabriel Tacchino, Stephen Kovacevich, and Murray Perahia.
Ryutaro has won top prizes at major international piano competitions like José Iturbi, Tbilisi, Emil Gilels, and Île-de-France, as well as honors from the Ravel International Academy and the Blüthner Foundation.
He’s been featured in top festivals across Europe — including Sommets Musicaux de Gstaad (Switzerland), Festival de Nohant, and the Chopin Festival in Paris. As a soloist, he has performed with leading orchestras such as the Tokyo Philharmonic, Valencia Orchestra, Odessa Philharmonic, and the National Symphony Orchestra of Colombia.
Ryutaro also enjoys rich collaborations with acclaimed musicians like Aurélien Pascal, Ryu Goto, and Michel Dalberto. His artistic curiosity has led him to premiere new works such as Jazz Etude by Thierry Escaich (2016) and Crane by Kyoko Hirai (2020). In 2023, he released his third album, adding another chapter to his growing discography.
He currently is the Artistic Director of the Classical Music Collection Japan, a project that brings classical concerts to Japan’s most traditional and historic venues. and performs throughout Europe, South America, as well as in Japan, where his career started by the age of 9, after giving his first concerto performance as a soloist with the Kanagawa Philharmonic Orchestra in Yokosuka.
