Recognized by the French magazine Le Monde de la Musique as one of the most promising pianists of his generation, Gustavo Carvalho has also received recognition from Nelson Freire, who early on highlighted his exceptional talent.
Winner of the 2nd Nelson Freire Competition in 2004, he has built a solid international career as a soloist, performing with major orchestras under the direction of renowned conductors and in emblematic concert halls in Europe and Russia, in addition to regularly participating in prestigious festivals.
His intense chamber music activity includes collaborations with distinguished performers on the international scene, among them the violinists Géza Hosszu-Legocky and Daniel Rowland, the pianists Nelson Freire, Elisso Virsaladze, and Cristian Budu, the soprano Eliane Coelho, as well as members of the Vienna and Berlin Philharmonic Orchestras.
His interest in contemporary music has led him to collaborate with several internationally renowned composers, such as György Kurtág, Samir Odeh-Tamimi, Harry Crowl, and Sérgio Rodrigo. He is currently the founder and artistic director of the Artes Vertentes Festival and is also developing a recognized career as a visual arts curator in Brazil and abroad.
