UME Management is proud to introduce conductor Marlon Daniel to its international roster—an artist not only redefining American music, but reclaiming it.
Long shaped by omission, the narrative of American classical music has often overlooked its most vital voices. Daniel stands at the forefront of a necessary shift, placing the work of Black American composers at the center of the canon. An African American conductor of notable authority and vision, he brings clarity and purpose to this artistic reckoning.
Born and raised in Chicago, his musical identity is rooted in a city central to Black musical traditions, from spirituals and blues to jazz. This foundation informs an approach that is both instinctive and historically grounded. His artistry has earned the trust of leading figures, including Pulitzer Prize-winning composer George Walker and William Grant Still, reinforcing his position as a leading orchestral conductor.
Daniel’s international advocacy includes the Russian premiere of Afro-American Symphony and collaborations with renowned composers such as Tania León, Adolphus Hailstork, James Lee III, Fred Onovwerosuoke, and Nkeiru Okoye.
UME Management is proud to represent Marlon Daniel, a defining voice in American music today, whose work continues to shape both national identity and the global understanding of the “American sound.”
